Rewilding Devon
The River Otter beavers had better watch out; there’s wildlife competition coming their way. The Wildwood Trust which has branches in Kent and Ottery St Mary Devon is looking to set up a wildcat breeding programme. Working in tandem with the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and Vincent Wildlife Trust and overseen by the University of Exeter, the breeding programme hopes to be able to reintroduce wildcats to Devon in future years.
There is some way to go before the cats will be released; not the least in identifying a suitable site and researching all of the implications of a release. Any wildcat kittens born before a suitable Devon site has been identified will be sent to Scotland to bolster the wildcat population there.
In a way the research required to identify a safe release site mirrors the research carried out before we recommend investments. What on the face of it looks like being a favourable investment may, once full research has been undertaken, not be as suitable as it first appears. That’s why our Investment Committee takes time to fully review data and associated investment conditions before making a recommendation.
