Last year more than twenty thousand people
reported that money had been stolen from them when criminals took
control of their computers or phones. Between them these individuals
lost over £50 million. The true figure is likely to be far higher as
it is known that some people don’t report their losses to the
authorities.

That’s why Action Fraud has launched a campaign highlighting the dangers of
remote access fraud and warning people to think twice before they
allow anyone else access to their computer. Remember, no bank,
insurance company or other institution will call out of the blue
requesting remote access to your device or asking for password or
other sensitive information.

Similarly, if you receive an e-mail requesting you to click on a link either to
change your log in, reset your password, or provide further
information then think twice before you do so. And if you do think
that scammers might have got through your guard, get in touch
straight away with your bank and Action Fraud.
