Taking a Global View

The Investment Association (IA), which represents UK investment managers,
has reported that in April 2022 £693m was invested in ISA funds.
Although this is down on April 2021’s record breaking £1.4billion,
the amount invested is still ahead of the five year average.

According to the IA, the Global Equity Income funds sector was the most popular
for investors, the first time that that sector has topped the charts.
IA speculates that this rise in popularity may partly be driven by
company dividends being seen as an important contributor to the
returns available from equities in the light of a weaker share price
market, and partly as an alternative to bond investments.

With this in mind, should investors take an increasingly global viewpoint?  Perhaps confusingly, the answer is yes, no, and maybe. The best
investment advice is that investors spread their investments both
globally and across business sectors so those with a narrow portfolio
may wish to review their options. But any decision should also be
taken in the light of personal circumstances and as those
circumstances and risk appetites change over time, portfolios should
also be regularly reviewed to ensure they continue to meet the needs
of an individual.
