A Time for Reflection and Preparation

Blustery winds, incessant rain and ever shorter days; the start of December has not exactly lived up to its billing as a time for quiet reflection and joyful preparation for the holiday ahead. And yet, by the time that we reach Christmas day the winter solstice will have passed; with slowly lengthening days bringing a faint promise that spring is not far away.

The American writer Ralph Waldo Emerson called December “the time for remembering the past and reaching toward the future.” It’s certainly a time when we not only remember loved ones but also those who have impacted and enriched our lives over the past year. But as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, it is also a time to look to the future, to plan new ventures, and to tweak existing plans in order to best meet future goals and aspirations.

And on a more mundane level, for those who have yet to file their 2022/23 tax returns, December is also a time for preparing paperwork and sourcing the information that might be needed to meet the end of January tax return deadline!
