Resolving the New Year

Are you one of the 58% of the UK population who has made a new year
resolution? If so, what was at the top of your to do list? Research
from Finder revealed that nationally, health topped the new year
list, followed by finances and family; although there were regional
variations. In the South West we put family and health equally on top
of the pile.

Of course, the trouble with new year resolutions is that, according to a
YouGov poll, just 26% of them are fully kept, with a further 46%
being partially maintained. The reasons are many and varied but one
of the key failure points seems to be that far too many resolutions
are too broad or vague in scope. For example, resolving to ‘sort my
finances out’ may seem a good idea but where do you start. It might
be easier to decide to take manageable and identifiable steps such as
‘reviewing my pension to see if it is on track to meet my life
goals’ or ‘checking my tax-efficient savings options.’
