Tracking the Markets

At the end of March 2025, the escalating global tariffs being proposed by US President, Donald Trump, resulted in a sharp fall in markets worldwide. At the time of writing on 1 April, those falls have largely been corrected, with the market rebound partly helped by better-than-expected Eurozone inflation figures.

It’s a good illustration of the way in which global markets are affected by a vast range of factors, leading to potential rises and falls even on a daily basis. That’s why the standard advice for investors is to look towards the long rather than the short term, with a portfolio spread across differing sectors and global regions. Reacting too quickly to a single blip could mean losing out as markets recover. However, it is also important to look at longer term trends when deciding on an investment mix and to review portfolios regularly. This helps to ensure that savings are optimised to meet personal goals and take into account any changes in personal circumstances.
